The Masterthesis

The masterthesis "Designing Time Perception" looks at the causes and effects of time subjectivity. The aim is to define the subjective perception of time as changeable, and thus configurable size.

This thesis does not provide an exemplary designed product. It includes the fact of time perception in the design process.

Zeit & Design
The Newspaper

As the core element of our thesis, the newspaper "Zeit & Design" contains information about the subjectivity of time and how designers can shape it. The newspaper is divided into eight scientific fields and their theoretical examination of the subjectivity of time, as well as practical applications and self-experiments. If you want to take your time and read the newspaper (german only) there are three options: First of all you can find an original newspaper in the archive of the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd, you can download a digital version here or you can simply get in touch.

The Podcast

Another important element of our thesis was the podcast "Gesprächszeit". We talked to experts from different scientific fields about their knowledge and experience with time subjectivity and linked their insights to the design field. Click here for the podcast.

The Website

Besides the newspaper and in addition to the theoretical texts, the website includes more examples of practical applications as well as more self-experiments. It is accessible to everyone here.

The Workshop

In May 2019 we had the ability to work with students from the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd. We hosted a one-week seminar and focused on the possibilty of designing time perception. The sharing of knowledge as well as lively discussion with our target group helped to generate practical applications for our rather theoretical topic.
